Workplace Math & Data Literacy

Goal: Today we'll use real-world math and data to make smart workplace decisions.

1. Kick-Off (2-3 min)

Prompt: “Where does math show up in your dream career?”

Goal: Reveal that math connects to nearly every decision.

2. Core Concepts (5-7 min)

3. Guided Work Time (12-15 min)

Tier 1 — “Quick Math Scenarios”

  • Solve 3 short workplace tasks (e.g., scheduling, supply cost).
  • Show calculations.
  • Discuss how errors could affect results.

Tier 2 — “Data Decision Mini-Project”

  • Analyze a small table (e.g., weekly attendance or sales).
  • Step 1: Calculate totals and one percentage.
  • Step 2: Write a 3-sentence Recommendation Report (“We should… because data shows…”).
  • Step 3: Peer feedback—does the data justify the choice?

4. Reflection (2-3 min)

Exit Ticket (Schoology or Paper): “How does data make decisions more credible?”
