Skill Categories

Every lesson and supplement is tagged with one (occasionally two) of these four categories from the P21 Framework for 21st Century Learning. The color-coded chip on each lesson card is a scanning shortcut back to this page.

L&C

Life & Career

Skills for navigating complex work and life environments: flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, working effectively with diverse teams, accountability and follow-through, and leadership and responsibility.

L&I

Learning & Innovation

Often called the "4 Cs": creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. These are the skills that determine how well a student is prepared for an increasingly complex work and life environment.

IMT

Information, Media & Technology

The ability to access, evaluate, and use information effectively; to analyze and create media thoughtfully; and to apply technology as a tool for research, organization, and communication.

CAT

Core Academic & Technical

Mastery of core subject knowledge combined with real, applied technical or vocational skill - the concrete, subject-specific competencies a task actually requires, not just the transferable skills around it.
