Professional Note-Taking & Documentation

Goal: Today we'll learn to take clear, structured notes and turn them into professional summaries and task records.

  • Tier 1: Take organized notes and write a short summary.

  • Tier 2: Produce a concise action memo from a simulated meeting.

1. Kick-Off (2-3 min)

Prompt: What happens when someone forgets to write things down after a meeting?

Goal: Show how poor documentation leads to missed deadlines or confusion.

2. Core Concepts (5-7 min)

3. Guided Work Time (12-15 min)

Tier 1 — “Mini-Meeting Notes”

  • Listen to a 2-minute instructor-led meeting scenario.
  • Write 3 bullets + 1 summary sentence.
  • Compare notes with a partner for completeness.

Tier 2 — “Meeting Simulation & Memo”

  • Instructor delivers a 3-minute “team meeting.”
  • Students take detailed notes using a 3-column table: Topic | Decision | Action Item.
  • Write a 3-4 sentence Action Memo summarizing key takeaways and next steps.
  • Peer review for clarity and tone.

Output: Submit notes and memo as documentation.

4. Reflection (2-3 min)
