Exceeding Expectations

Goal: Today we'll explore what it means to go beyond the minimum—to deliver work that shows effort, pride, and professionalism.

1. Kick-Off (2-3 min)

Prompt: When someone says “Do the bare minimum,” what comes to mind? What happens when someone does the opposite?

Goal: Encourage reflection on ownership and work pride.

2. Core Concepts (5-7 min)

3. Guided Work Time (12-15 min)

Tier 1 — “Better Than Before” Review

  • Students revise one recent assignment using the checklist above.
  • Circle one improvement that makes it exceed expectations.

Tier 2 — “Value Add” Brainstorm

  • Groups brainstorm one realistic way to enhance a class project (visuals, structure, presentation).
  • Present their enhancement plan briefly to class.

4. Reflection (2-3 min)

Exit Ticket:

  • Why is “good enough” not always good enough?
  • What’s one area where you can exceed expectations this week?
