Work Order — Lesson #13
Stage Time Purpose & Activity Instructor Notes
1. Kick-Off 2-3 min Prompt: "Think of something you weren't good at at first but got better at. What changed?" Normalize the learning curve—skill grows with time and effort.
2. Core Concepts 5-7 min Teach four key ideas: Growth Mindset, Fixed Mindset, Iteration, and Feedback Loop. Emphasize "Fail Forward" — mistakes = data for improvement.
3. Guided Work Time 12-15 min Tier 1: "Quick Fix Challenge" — Students respond to a short creative prompt (e.g., slogan, logo, or email). They create a first draft, swap with a partner for one suggestion, then revise once. Tier 2: "Feedback Sprint" — Teams complete a short design or writing task (e.g., poster, product blurb, or app sketch). After Round 1, they exchange with another team, apply one actionable suggestion, and present the revised "Version 2." Keep activities brief and iterative. Praise visible improvement, not perfection. Encourage specific, kind feedback ("Try adding…").
4. Reflection / Exit Ticket 2-3 min Prompts: "What changed between your first and second version?" "How does feedback help you grow?" Reinforce reflection as the most important part of iteration.

Objectives

  • Distinguish between fixed and growth mindsets.
  • Apply iteration by making small, focused improvements to creative work.
  • Reflect on how progress happens through feedback and persistence.

Key Terms:

  • Growth Mindset: Belief that ability improves with effort and feedback.
  • Iteration: Repeating, refining, and improving a process or product.
  • Feedback Loop: Using responses from others to improve performance.
